New Legislation Will Impact Physical Education! Here is What You Need to Know!

Three pieces of legislation have been signed into California Ed Code that could impact physical education programming at your school.

·       AB 2073 provides flexibility in how physical education instructional minutes are scheduled for schools with alternate term schedules (4X4, trimester, etc.).

·       AB 1653 requires schools that offer athletic programs to develop and implement emergency action plans that include procedures for addressing heat illness, alongside existing protocols for sudden cardiac arrest and other medical emergencies. Physical educators should be aware of and follow action plans as appropriate.

·       AB 2377 mandates that students in grades 1-12 be granted accommodations in physical education classes during periods of religious fasting.
