Students, staff, families and educational partners gathered at district headquarters this week to celebrate the beauty, richness, impact and diversity of Hispanic Heritage Month at the second annual Latinx/e flag raising event.

The student-led celebration featured Mariachi and Ballet Folklorico performances, as well speeches, original poems, and inspirational messages from students about their individual and collective experiences.

“I think if we listen to what our students are saying, what a beautiful culture they come from, but how they still feel like they don’t belong, I think that that’s why it’s important for us to honor them,” Interim Superintendent Dr. Fabiola Bagula said.

Following the raising of the Latin(x/e) Heritage Month flag, students from schools across the district engaged in a conference designed to provide resources and inspiration to student groups that seek to promote Chicano unity and empowerment.
