Vision Statement

The San Diego Unified School District will be a leader in physical education by providing high-quality professional development opportunities and support to physical educators in their efforts to provide instruction that equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to be physically literate individuals who are able to engage with physical activity throughout their lifetime. 

Mission Statement

The Physical Education department supports district physical educators by providing best practices and innovative programming that promotes positive engagement necessary to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitude to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Physical Literacy

Physical literacy describes the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life.  (Margaret Whitehead, 2014 as cited by the International Physical Literacy Association, 2015.)
